c'est la vie

I'm sitting at the gym waiting for people to show up for the 11am class. CrossFit has been slow lately, but I'd like to believe that the reason is that the holiday buzz is beginning. The good news is we have new clients. In the last two weeks we've had 3 people who have jumped on board. I am hopeful that it will keep up.

This last weekend was a blast. On Saturday I went with bethany and Pa to CrossFit Bellevue to see Coach Glassman give his CrossFit 101 talk. There was a workout, food is zone proportions and lots of great people chatting and exchanging contacts. The excitement at any CrossFit event has a rejuvenating effect. After an event like that I always get psyched up to get back to the gym to train and help people be better at life. The workout at the event was tabata abs which is a series of 4 abs exercises in intervals of 20 seconds work 10 seconds rest for 16 min. Usually I can never do enough abs work that I get sore, but I could hardly get out of bed yesterday because of the soreness. After lying there for a while I finally decided to situp and embrace the pain. The first thought that came to my mind was RHABDO. Ouch. I'm better today. Coach Glassman told me that if Papa ever decided to abandon me that he gets first dibs on adoption. I failed to note that Coach Burgener already had first dibs and Coach Rip had second. Oh heck.
Sunday I spent the whole day sitting on the couch nursing my abdominal pain and having a Heroes marathon. That show is addictive, I'm tellin' ya.

Now it's Monday, back to work. Fortunately we only have a three day week thanks to Thanksgiving weekend. Woohoo. The original plan was that Papa would be going to Bozeman for Thanksgiving and I'd spend the evening at MiNan and Andi's(which I wasn't too psyched up about, no offense), but it turns out that Papa will be home and we'll be going over to Oksana's in Sequim for the day. Oksana is really sweet and I'm always happy to spend time with her.

I'll be taking a week off from physical therapy because my doctor's on vacation. My ankle has been feeling so much better. There is less adhesion on the ligaments, lateral jumping doesn't hurt as much, and the overall stability has improved immensely. I've resolved to keep up on my homework.

I finished Brave New World. It is definitely a lighter and more colorful novel than 1984. If I had to choose one of those as the future of society I'd pick the Brave New World, though it's still extremely terrifying. The thing that struck me the most was the absence of emotion and the use of a drug to suppress it. It sorta makes me appreciate pain for what it is.

This new life is good. Honestly I couldn't ask for more except to see my sisters more often. But... c'est la vie. Je suis contente. I will see you guys soon.

I hear Stefan is doing really well and that makes me really happy and proud. I'm going to visit Maryland for the last three weeks of December and I cannot express how excited I am. I'll be able to go to tutorials and seminar possibly get a small taste of what Stefan's been doing (Laurel offered to give me some homeschooling projects. Yay!). And I might do some cooking.

Life has been pretty ordinary.

I started physical therapy last week. I get to do these super duper sweet exercises with therabands and a bosu balls including this thing that makes me look like a cowboy that just dismounted a horse for the first time in his life. I've been very inclined to do the whole galloping thing while swinging the lasso and all. The whole shabang. I told my physical therapist that I'm a Crossfit trainer and my family runs a gym and he said "Oh that's great! So you have access to all this great equipment." referring to the fit balls and pink dumbells against the wall. "Actually no," I say. Sigh. Two more weeks of this fun.

I just finished 1984 by George Orwell and have started Brave New World, by Huxley. It's pretty terrifying. The former has put me in a mindset where I wonder what it would be like if not only the government could detect our thoughts but also the people in our proximity. It's a weird thought and I wouldn't like it. You don't want to know what I'm thinking. I may appear innocent on the outside but...
Or it could be that I'm just watching to much Heroes.

I watched Grizzly Man on Friday night. It's about Timothy Treadwell, who lived with grizzlies in Alaska for 13 summers before he was eaten by one. I think this was one of Herzog's lighter themed movies though he doesn't hesitate to express his view:
"...I differ with Treadwell. He seemed to ignore the fact that in nature there are predators. I believe that the common denominator of the universe is not harmony, but chaos, hostility and murder." -Werner Herzog
Papa and I got a good laugh out of this. It is apparent, though, from his other movies such as Aguirre, Wrath of God which depicts the story of a band of rebellious Spanish conquistadors exploring the Amazon. They are eventually all driven crazy and/or killed off by disease or hostile natives.

more crossfit stuff.

Last weekend was Parent's weekend at St. Johns and Papa flew out to Maryland to visit the rest of the family. I was left at home. Bethany adopted me for the weekend and I hung out at her house watching Heroes and enjoying good food. We made a good meal: Sticky pork ribs, green salad Korean style, and I was in charge of the tapioca, melon, and coconut milk dessert. Very Yummy. We should do it again.
